5 Facts about the Monster World (Monstrus)

It’s come to my attention that most non-monster folk don’t know much of anything about the world that I (and monster folk) come from… often called the “Monster World” or “Monstrus” by us.

Basically, monsters are found all around the “normal” human world, but most humans are just unable to notice them. They have jobs, eat food, and generally go about their business ignoring the “manlings” among them.

Manlings are rather simple beings, but can be of interest to us from time to time.

Here are 5 Facts about Monstrus that you should know about:

1. Monsters live in monster towns. Yes, I know that it might surprise you, but most monsters don’t live under your bed, or behind your closet doors. Nope. They live in their own communities, many of which are not far from human cities. “Maddach” is just a bridge away from Portland, Oregon, and “Ghoot” is found to the South of Spokane, Washington. Humans can not find these towns. Not possible for 99.9% manlings.

2. Monsters have jobs. Okay, so there I said it. No monster has time to scare you all night long, when there’s a living to be made. Some of us clean up garbage while others create cornmeal coatings for corndogs. Sure, some of us are able to pay the bills by “haunting” year round, but they’re equivalent to rock stars in your world.

3. Most Monsters are individuals. Now ignore what you know about that Harpy family in the South East, or the Sasquatch folks up in Canada somewhere… these are the exceptions to the rule. Most monsters are not of any particular race, but are in fact, unique beasts with unique powers, physiques and so forth. You won’t find a “Monster Manual” describing every type of monster… no way!

4. Our money is Gold. Monsters don’t do business with credit cards, paper money, or thin coins minted out of worthless pot metal; Monstrus does it’s commerce in Gold! It’s true. Most of us like some form of gold… it’s beautiful, shiny, and it sings to us. Most Manlings can’t see our Monstrus coins, since they’re minted by Fae folk.

5. The Top Hat Brigade is our enemy. Headed by “Monsterologist” (ha!) Duke Davis, the Top Hat Brigade claims to want nothing more than to “study and document all things monster.” In reality, this group is a shady criminal organization, with the goal to take everyone’s Monstrus Gold and lock up all of the monsters. If you get a chance, ask Mr. Davis about his vault of gold coins in his castle… and watch his plump face crack into a smile.

Okay, that’s enough for today. However, I’ll be writing more about Monstrus in hopes of helping you understand more about the unseen world that surrounds you.

  2. I’ve got a top hat, imagine that. And with a keen eye, into the Monstrus world I pry. From behind a tree or under a rock, with a keen sense of smell; monsters I stalk. My home is decorated with things & bits, oh, to chat about them throws me into fits. Perhaps if you good I’ll give you a glimps, behind a pile of gold at the rare squaking Mimps.
